Ecumenical Legislative Briefing Day

Ecumenical Legislative Briefing Day was held on Saturday, February 13th at Christ United Methodist Church, Lincoln.

Workshops were held on

Education - Barbara Jacobson, Lincoln Public Schools facilitated the workshop around what issues are impacting schools, communities and students in 2010.

Behavioral Health - Melissa Donchenske and Denise Witherby, Mental Health Association of Nebraska facilitated the workshop on what the consumers of mental health services are tellins us that will help us be strong advocates before the legislature.

Health Care Reform - Chuck Bentjen, Lutheran Advoacy Office, facilitated the workshop on where we are on the issue of health care reform and what it means.

Aging Population - Donna Washburn, Eldercare Connection, Lincoln Area Agency on Aging, and Mark Intermill, Nebraska AARP facilitated the workshop on what issues are facing our aging population and how we are addressing them.

Children's Issues - Tom McBride, Epworth Village, facilitated the workshoop on what issues advocating for children are before the 2010 Legislature.

Women's Issues Before the Nebraska Legislature - Kathy Uhrmacher, League of Women Voters facilitated the workshop on an overview of pending state legislation impacting women and their families.

Poverty and Hunger - Bill Wehrbein, Nebraska Wesleyan University, facilitated the workshop on finding ways to address poverty and hunger in our communities and what is happening on these issues in the Legislature.

Immigration - Darcy Tromhauser, Nebraska Appleseed Center facilitated the workshop on what legislative decisions are impacting the new populations coming to Nebraska.

Hard Issues Before the 2010 Legislature - Bob Lombardi facilitated the workshop on what legislative issues will impact the citizens of Nebraska the most and which ones will cause the most debate.
