Grants to American Indians in Nebraska (GAIN)

Grants to American Indianas in Nebraska (GAIN), the interchurch funding coalition to American Indians in Nebraska is administered by Interchurch Ministries of Nebraska.
GAIN's purpose is to give participating denominational judicatories and agencies maximum effectiveness and efficiency of their funding each year to Indian ministries, services, and programs within the State of Nebraska.
GAIN GOALS:
A. To assist American Indian groups in Nebraska discover the most appropriate church funding source to submit their valid funding requests.
B. To assure participating denominational judicatories and agencies that funding requests submitted to them come from bone fide Indian organizations in Nebraska, and the requests will address identified and validated needs of American Indians within the state.
C. To allow state-level, and national funding sources a way to consolidate and jointly administer the funds they allocate each year for American Indian work in Nebraska.
D. To specify and direct the support and program services provided to the GAIN Committee each year by Interchurch Ministries of Nebraska.
PURPOSES & CRITERIA OF GRANTS:
To be considered for funding by GAIN, a proposal for funding must contribute directly to the achievement of GAIN Goals. It must provide benefit to American Indians in areas of recognized need, including:
- Food and nutrition
- Health and medical services
- Emergency assistance
- Alcohol/drug rehabilitation
- Programs to modify structures and attitudes which perpetuate the suffering of American Indians in Nebraska (e.g., counseling and referral, employment opportunities, educational services)
CRITERIA:
To receive grant funds from the GAIN Committee, the applicant shall agree to the funding conditions:
1. In the event funding sources fail to provide the required amount of support, the GAIN Committee may review the viability of the project with the applicant(s) and reaffirm or adjust its financial support in light of that review.
2. The applicant shall submit a written quarterly report within 30 days after the end of each quarter for the duration of the GAIN grant period (January 1 - December 31). Said report will state the FINANCIAL CONDITION of the project and will SUMMARIZE PROGRAM ACTIVITIES AND PROGRESS as of the end of the reporting period. A report prepared for another funding source may be submitted for this report, provided it includes both program and financial information.
PURPOSES & SPECIFICATIONS FOR "VALIDATION":
The purpose of VALIDATION is to assure funding sources that all funding applications submitted to the GAIN Committee are valid and appropriate for the Committee and other funding sources to consider.
To be designated "valid" for funding consideration:
Preliminary findings must be made by GAIN staff, that:
- The NEED to be addressed by the proposal is real and has been identified by Nebraska Indians themselves;
- The ORGANIZATION applying for the funding is responsible and legitimately represents an identifiable group of American Indians in Nebraska;
- The proposed PROGRAM SERVICE ACTIVITY will benefit or service American Indians in Nebraska in a definable way.
A judgment must be made by the GAIN Committee that: the preliminary staff findings are accurate and fair; and, the proposal holds reasonable promise of success.
