DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TRAINING:
“Ministry with
Those Suffering in Silence”
Clergy and lay leaders from any
denomination are invited and encouraged to attend vital training on faith
community responses to domestic violence.
The training, entitled “Domestic Violence – Ministry with Those
Suffering in Silence,” will focus on:
- Cultural beliefs, myths, and facts about domestic
violence
- Types of violence used by batterers and recognizing
power/control tactics
- Men’s use of violence/Women’s use of violence
- Religious beliefs, faith, and congregational life as
a resource, not a roadblock to safety for battered women and their
children
- Boundaries: What
is my role and what are safe responses and referrals for battered women
and their children? What are
responses to batterers that focus on accountability?
- Safety, confidentiality, lethality when working with
battered women
- Resources for clergy, lay leaders, and congregations
in responses to domestic violence
Trainers will include clergy,
local domestic violence/sexual assault program advocates, and staff from the
Faith Community/Domestic Violence Outreach Project. Below is a lit of training dates and
sites. Each training begins on Monday at
3:00 p.m. and ends on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
There is NO COST for these trainings.
Supper, lunch, and overnight housing (if needed) are provided at no cost
to the participant. Registration is
needed for purposes of planning meals and housing. You may register by calling the Cotner Office
